The Suzani

The suzani has recently become very popular in textiles.  You probably see the stylized botanical motif all over but aren't sure what to call it or even where it originates from.

Well this wonderful, whimsical design dates back to the 18th century in Central Asia, what is now Uzbekistan.  These hand crafted works of art began as an intimate part of the culture.  The piece was traditionally started when a daughter of the family was born and was continued by members of the family and friends until it was complete as the brides dowry.
The hand stitching was first done using lavish silk thread, but today is typically done using linen, cotton,  or wool thread.  They can even be woven or printed.
This wonderful pattern adds character and charm to any space!

Below are a few suzani fabrics from our library!

Chevron

Chevron is a pattern that can be used in almost any application.  From fabrics to wallcoverings; even tile layouts use this playful yet simple design.  To impact or accent a room it can be paired with a bold color, or to convey a sense of elegance and sophistication when used as a neutral texture.

Montana's climate although mostly bug free, has a limited period which allows for this beautiful luxury.  Below are some of our favorite, unique outdoor spaces for enjoying fabulous food and good company!  Maybe they will inspire you to create your own special dining spot!

The Garden Stool

Garden stools have a way of popping up quite frequently these days in just about every designers work, leaving many wondering where did this quaint little piece come from?
The drum-shaped design originated in China between 960-1279 under the Song Dynasty.  They were typically made of glazed stone or porcelain and actually used in gardens.  Today they are made out of just about anything and placed almost everywhere indoors!

Midnight Upholstery

This dark midnight color would be perfect paired with the yellow hues below from our last post!

The silver nail heads pop against this dark upholstery!

This dramatic upholstered headboard is lightened up by the kelly greens and playful pattern.

This Divine feather wallcovering is by Schumacher.

Again, this chaise could be very formal, but placing it in a bright white space with ethnic accents and prints is a wonderful contrast!
